Getting better every time in a relative scale of hardness, 2021


Ego - is like a transparent balloon that is disturbing the view. The person climbing feels everything and nothing, does not need anything, does not even feel his body and has a sharp mind. To feel mental confidence you have to have body confidence. But from there everything depends on you. How does the ego help you? They say it helps and destroys at the same time. 

All gems with or without crystalline structure will break under pressure. You have to know how to put a suitable challenge and know how to treat them.

On the other hand, in gemology there is the Moh’s hardness scale. It shows the relational hierarchy of one stone towards the other. E.g Cyanite can be cut by a quartz, quartz by a corendon, or corendon by a diamond. I want to take it as a reference to the development process. We understand that once a stone is one it cannot be the other. But the scale itself makes me think that there is a hierarchy, so there is a process. To address the issue of mental strength, I represent how different gems affect diamond cutting. and other gems among them. How do you get better. Until it becomes the diamond itself that is not affected by anything.

For the selection of pieces that I make for this presentation I choose quartz, since it is a stone that I always find when I climb the mountains. And pink for its naivité for this situation against which I face.

This work is a tribute to the sensation that Mountaneers have shared and experienced, along with their fears, excitements, observations and revelations of life. The sacred moment that they have lived after achieving it for a long time. The common of these stories are the high mountains, peaks, the outer and inner beauty. The drive that got them there with many internal fights and reflections with their ego and the tranquility that they obtained, even if it was for only a few brief moments.
